ABOUT CHAD

Chad Massie is a technology and business strategy leader with 20 years of experience building teams, creating engaging work culture, and designing web and mobile product solutions to serve the needs of students, educators, and educational institutions around the world.  His teams have built products used by tens of millions of people in the process of researching, applying to, and enrolling in college, and their stories have been told in numerous publications, including as a human-centered design case study in The Product Mindset.  Most recently, Chad's work has focused on higher education outcomes and connecting young people to career and workforce opportunities.  Chad started his career in university admissions and has served in corporate roles ranging from Director of Partnerships to VP of Product & Technology to Chief Strategy Officer at Hobsons and Common App.

REPRESENTATIVE
PROJECTS

  • Based upon a market analysis, crafted strategic positioning and communication  recommendations for the business line General Manager of a services company seeking to increase engagement with the education community.
     

  • Created organizational scaling plan for the CEO of a growing higher education consulting services company, including presentations for the Board of Directors and the staff.  Project included employee interviews, process and document review, and template creation.  (Company acquired 18 months after engagement.)
     

  • Performed a review of a growing software company's product management and product strategy infrastructure.  Outlined recommendations for the CEO and COO of near-term and longer-term initiatives, including a framework for prioritization and decision-making.
     

  • Working with the CEO and Head of Product of an established higher education software platform, performed a market and strategic engagement analysis to inform future company investment in a new market segment.  (Company announced significant private equity investment 9 months after engagement.)
     

  • Developed a culture and change management strategy for a software company transitioning to the cloud.  Related blog post:

  • Designed a partner management plan and provided product management best practices to a higher education data service company working to expand their partner engagement program and their technical integration platform.
     

  • Provided enrollment management strategy and admissions process insights to a higher education platform start-up.
     

  • Implemented data, knowledge management, customer service, and support infrastructure for a start-up higher education business focused on career services.  Additionally, performed product management, product marketing, and program management activities for three new product lines.
     

  • Collaborated with the executive team of a start-up company to build fundraising decks, sales presentations, and investor relations materials in support of a Series A financing round.
     

  • Conducted a day-long product and partner roadmap workshop with the leadership team of a higher education software company.
     

  • Provided on-demand research, analysis, and strategy advice to a data platform provider serving higher education institutions and their students.
     

  • Volunteer member of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-backed initiative on college-level "gateway courses" to improve outcomes for new majority learners.
